Remedial and Special Education

01-16-2013 A journal dedicated to the issues and practices of remedial and special education. Each issue averages five to six articles, which may be literature reviews, position papers, or research reports. Topics cover a broad range of issues concerning the population of underachieving and exceptional individuals. Recent article topics include disability studies in education; states' accommodations policies; using web-based mentoring with Black male students; charter schools and students with disabilities; effects of training in universal design for learning; social skills interventions for young children with disabilities; inclusive schooling and community-referenced learning; mediated activities and science literacy; charter school enrollment of students with disabilities; and the legal and practical issues of high school graduation for students with disabilities. A special series considers peer-mediated instruction and intervention. Contributing authors are predominantly academics, including graduate students. Book reviews and a professional calendar are regular features. A journal of importance for the special education teacher and regular classroom teacher, as well as those teaching in the field.
