Probation Journal

Publisher:  Sage Publications Ltd.
01-16-2013 Probation Journal: The Journal of Community and Criminal Justice is a peer-reviewed journal published by Sage in association with Napo, a U.K.-based trade union and professional association for family court and probation staff. It was first published in 1929 (by an earlier incarnation of Napo) as a trade magazine. But it has evolved into a quarterly scholarly journal that addresses U.K. and international probation and related issues. Napo, although still involved in the publication of the journal, exercises no editorial control. Because this is a U.K. publication, most of the articles discuss issues directly related to that country, but the research and theory are applicable to an international audience; according to the journal's web site, it now has subscribers in 25 countries. The journal features articles that present the results of quantitative and qualitative research, discuss best practices, and present recent theoretical debates. Each issue also contains book reviews and a column, "In Court," that "reviews recent appeal judgements and other judicial developments that inform sentencing and early release."
