Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency

01-16-2013 Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency is published quarterly by Sage in cooperation with the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice. From its inaugural issue in 1964 until volume 45 in 2008, the journal was sponsored by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD). This U.S. nonprofit was founded in 1907 to promote research to support humane solutions to family, community, and justice problems. Rutgers faculty members have been the editors since the 1990s, and state that the scope and mission remains as it was under the NCCD watch. The journal publishes original research, research notes, and essays. It is ranked among the top criminal justice journals (see section introduction for information on selection/ranking criteria). Each issue contains three to five articles, and for the most part they present the results of original quantitative or qualitative research into delinquency. In February 2011, the journal resumed publishing special issues after a several-year hiatus. The theme for this latest issue was "Crime and Place." It presented criminal research using spatial analysis;b1for example, crimes committed on street corners. Examples of topics covered in other recent issues include gang membership; the theft of copper wire; the victimization of adolescents at school, based on an extensive dataset from Kentucky; a look at the development of delinquency in high-risk youth in the Netherlands using treatment data; and an essay on a new organizational theory applied to police organization. This journal would be helpful to anyone interested in current research on delinquency, including criminologists, social workers, and psychologists. Available online and in print from Sage.
