01-16-2013 Journal of Interpersonal Violence's subtitle states the journal is "concerned with the study and treatment of victims and perpetrators of physical and sexual violence," and this succinctly explains the unique editorial focus of this journal, on both the victims and offenders in interpersonal violence. Contributors are academics and practitioners from a variety of disciplines, including sociology, social work, public health and health administration, pediatrics, clinical psychology, and criminal justice. They are primarily associated with U.S. universities and policy centers; however, submissions from international researchers are frequently included. The articles "address the causes, effects, treatments, and prevention of all types of interpersonal violence." Recent examples of research that has appeared include an analysis of interviews with male social workers who counsel men who are batterers; a U.K. study of police interventions in domestic violence where children are involved; and a quantitative study of teachers and violence that they experience at school directed at them. In addition to research articles, the journal publishes regular features that include commentary, practice notes, discussions of methodology, and book reviews. The Journal of Interpersonal Violence is published monthly by Sage and available in print and online. The online archive goes back to the first issue in 1986, when it was a quarterly. The frequency increased to bimonthly in 1997, and then to monthly in 1999. This journal is useful for faculty, students, and practitioners, and is recommended for most academic libraries.
