01-16-2013 This is the leading journal for the general study of the English language. Embracing an ecumenical range of theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches, the journal variously focuses on the history of English, English grammar, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and dialectology. In keeping with its ambition to serve as the premier journal in its field, it regularly include interviews with leading scholars on their work and trends in the field in general, and a column "on the profession," in which key issues of concern to the members of the profession are discussed. Book reviews and occasional theme issues are also featured. JEL also covers such topics as language change, word origins, emerging computer methods and new quantitative methods for the study of English, gender issues in language, and historical and formal studies of Old and Middle English.
