03-15-2000 The articles in this journal emphasize qualitative research, draw conclusions based upon observations and interviewing, and thus explore the sociology of contemporary society. There are three or four long academic articles per issue. Recent articles have been titled "Tavern Culture and Television Viewing," "Fear of Victimization and the Interactional Construction of Harassment in a Latino Neighborhood," and "Dale Carnegie, the Carpenters, and Cambodia." Other articles probe the differences between black and white sororities, the life of Chilean working-class women, and society aboard an Alaskan fishing boat. Book reviews are not included in every issue and often take the form of a review essay. In approach, this journal differs from the majority of urban studies journals by exploring people and society sociologically rather than economically, politically, or geographically.
