The journal "was a by-product of the Sociology Liberation Movement, which erupted at the 1969 meetings of the American Sociological Association." Articles focus on the Marxist tradition, and on post-modern, feminist, and other radical arguments. It is one of the few alternative social science journals respected in mainstream social science.
