The editors strive expressly to make this journal lively and stimulating. One of the journal's aims is to present material that can be the subject of debate and controversy. The content of each volume, regarding time and place, is eclectic, with a certain emphasis on social history. Recent articles include "A Plague on Bohemia? Mapping the Black Death"; "The Social History of Communion and the Reformation of the Eucharist"; and "The Practice of Kindness in Early Modern Elite Society." Book reviews do not appear regularly, but there are occasional lengthy review articles, as well as occasional debate essays. (Fladger, Ellen)
