01-16-2013 This respected British journal of literary criticism "covers the whole field of English Literature from the time of Chaucer to the present day." Each issue of Essays in Criticism usually includes two or three scholarly articles and four or five book reviews. Articles generally are 15;b220 pages in length. There is also a "Critical Opinion" section, which provides topical discussion of various literary issues. Recent examples from the "Critical Opinion" section are "The Fate of Beauty" and "Richard Hoggart and the Leavises." Recent articles include "Rivalry and Romance in Late Shakespeare," "Wordsworth Among the Glow-Worms," and "Dante and Shelley's Terza Rima." In the April issue of each volume, the journal publishes the F. W. Bateson Memorial Lecture, an Oxford address named after the journal's founder and delivered by notable scholars in the field.
