ELT Journal

01-16-2013 As the title states, this journal is oriented toward practitioners of English Language Teaching (ELT). Published by the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (www.iatefl.org), its stated mission is to unite the concerns of teachers "with insights gained from related academic disciplines such as applied linguistics, education, psychology, and sociology." Recent articles exhibit a corresponding diversity of interest, ranging from a consideration of textbooks to spoken grammar, and from raising sociocultural awareness to evaluating teaching practices. Its authors come from all over the world. In addition to a full slate of research articles, each issue also harbors much other material: there is a "readers respond" section, a "key concepts in ESL" column, book reviews, and a regular feature, "Websites for the Language Teacher," which reviews various sites under different rubrics such as "Business English" or "The Moving Image." Recommended for libraries at institutions with EFL programs. See also Modern Language Journal, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, and TESOL Quarterly. (Staiger, Jeff)
