Physics Education

01-16-2013 Physics Education is a British journal for teaching physics at the high school and beginning undergraduate college levels. As such, it is one of the few physics journals that can be read by a general audience. The editors seek to provide teachers with a forum for practicing teachers to make an active contribution to the physics teaching community; knowledge updates in physics, educational research, and relevant wider curriculum developments; and strategies for teaching and classroom management that will engage and motivate students. Research papers are presented on the teaching and learning of physics; the examining and assessment of physics; new approaches to the general presentation and application of physics in the classroom; and curriculum developments around the world. All of the articles are written for the nonspecialist and avoid much of the higher-level mathematics inherent in most physics research publications. The goals of the journal are to cover the wide range of topics included in the field of physics, to enhance the standards and quality of teaching, to make physics more attractive to students and teachers, to keep teachers up-to-date on new developments in the field, and to provide a forum for the sharing of ideas about teaching physics. Each issue contains articles on new developments in physics, ideas for teaching physical concepts, profiles of prominent scientists, reviews of resources that can be used by physics teachers, news from the field, and even a little humor. Articles in the electronic version are supplemented by multimedia content such as worksheets, spreadsheets, programs, and audio and video clips. This journal is the British equivalent of The Physics Teacher (see below), and it is an excellent choice for those libraries that seek to add a general physics journal to their collections.
