11-15-1997 This journal attempts to apply the theories and scientific research of the scholarly world to the practical problems of testing in the areas of second and foreign languages, mother tongues, and language disability. The editors set a high standard by requiring the results to be reproducible, although they do not exclude theoretical essays. There is usually an annual "special" thematic issue on a topic, such as "washbacking." The editors are soliciting guest editors for these issues and suggestions for themes; however, they prefer to commission most of the reviews themselves. The scholarly articles, preceded by abstracts, deal with subjects such as reading comprehension, language impairment, and the role of test givers and takers. The "Research Notes" section includes brief accounts of studies. Recommended for any libraries with teaching collections.
