Sociology of Religion

Издатель:  Oxford University Press
01-16-2013 Sponsored by the Association for the Sociology of Religion, Sociology of Religion has published sociological analyses of religion since 1969. This quarterly journal primarily presents, but is not limited to, empirical research, with articles offering a fascinating look at religion's roles and effects in modern society. Recent articles have included "Why Evangelicals like Wal-Mart: Education, Region, and Religious Society" and "Round Trip to Hell in a Flying Saucer: The Relationship between Conventional Christian and Paranormal Beliefs in the United States." A variety of religious faiths and cultural contexts are considered from sociological perspectives, e.g., one recent issue contained articles about Mormonism in Japan, an alternative spiritual gathering in Israel, and the spiritual community founded by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in Oregon. Every issue contains eight to ten short book reviews on religion-oriented works of sociology. The journal's web site is searchable and provides access to citations and abstracts. This journal is of great value to social scientists and religious studies scholars, and is recommended for academic libraries that support research in social science and humanities.
