International Review of Social History

Издатель:  Cambridge University Press
01-16-2013 For over 70 years, this journal has published much of the leading scholarship in social history. The International Institute for Social History, based in the Netherlands, sponsors the journal. Contributors are mainly from American and British institutions, with some from European countries. The research articles that begin each issue cover a range of countries, usually Britain, the United States, or European states, but also Africa, Israel, and Australia. Many articles explore issues of workers' groups and labor history, but other topics from transnational radicals to labor courts, and from worldwide migration and social class to refugees and rebel armies, are also included. Articles are in English, with occasional reviews in French or German. The extensive annotated bibliography of books on many aspects of social history is a vital section of this journal. Covering some 30 pages, the bibliography begins with a general section and is then subdivided by continent and country. The annual supplement is another strength of the journal; this special issue draws together articles on a major theme such as the work in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, or current issues of globalization and environmental change and their impact on social history. The journal will appeal to historians and social scientists, especially scholars with an interest in labor history. (Schwartz, Vanette M.)
